Wing Back

A Wing-back is a Full-back defender who has a heavier emphasis on attack. Wing-backs are the combination of wingers and full-backs.

Wing-backs are usually used in a formation with 3 centre-backs (CB). They are sometimes classified as midfielders instead of defenders. Wing-backs are often adventurous and are expected to provide width (especially in squads without wingers). They are required to have exceptional stamina and have ability to provide crosses upfield and defend effectively against attackers. Wing-backs usually have a high attacking work rate.


Win-backs are expected to be performing the following roles on the filed:

  • Defensive roles
  • Wing-back's roles
  • Supporting attackers on flanks
  • Performing counters
