GOALS Game Modes

This guide covers every game mode currently available in GOALS, from solo practice and casual matches to Ranked, Tournaments, and the weekly Knockout competition. GOALS currently focuses on 1v1 football, while additional formats such as 2v2 and 5v5 are planned for future updates.

The Play menu groups the available modes into competitive, casual, and practice experiences. Most completed matches award Match Points and XP, although matchmaking rules, progression, and additional rewards vary by mode.

1v1 Knockout

Mode Type

Weekly competitive online event.

Schedule

Knockout runs from Friday at 09:00 CET until Monday at 09:00 CET.

How It Works

Players begin in Bronze and attempt to progress through Silver, Gold, Elite, and the final Knockout division. Each division requires a set number of wins within a limited number of attempts. Failing to meet the requirement ends the run for that week.

After reaching the Knockout division, players can continue winning matches until recording two losses. The final score is determined by the number of wins achieved in this division, with the highest totals appearing on the global Top 500 leaderboard.

Matchmaking

Matchmaking is primarily based on the current division. MMR is used in Bronze, while later divisions naturally become more difficult because players face others who have also advanced.

Rewards

Rewards depend on the final division reached and the total number of wins. Regular rewards can be claimed when the run ends, while Top 500 rewards are distributed after the leaderboard is finalized. Matches also award Match Points and XP, with double match rewards for a win.

Tournaments

Mode Type

Four-round elimination competition available against online opponents or AI-controlled teams.

Tournament Rounds
  • Round of 16
  • Quarter-final
  • Semi-final
  • Final
How It Works

One loss eliminates the team from the current tournament. Individual events may impose squad-entry conditions based on team rating, player tier, nationality, age, or other requirements. These conditions encourage players to maintain and use more than one squad configuration.

Online Tournaments

Online matchmaking primarily considers the tournament round, with MMR used more loosely. Match rewards increase as the team advances toward the Final.

Solo Tournaments

Solo or Bot Tournaments use the same four-round structure against AI. The difficulty rises in later rounds, and rewards scale with the selected overall difficulty.

Rewards

The first tournament victory provides the largest completion reward. Further victories provide smaller repeatable rewards in addition to the rewards earned from individual rounds.

1v1 Ranked

Mode Type

The main skill-based competitive mode in GOALS.

Matchmaking

Ranked uses stricter MMR matchmaking than Quickplay and has no squad restrictions. Skill Rating changes after every completed match and determines the player's position across 10 ranks.

Rewards

Collecting 15 Reward Points unlocks a reward based on the current rank. This reward track is repeatable and does not use seasonal resets. Ranked matches also award Match Points and XP, with double match rewards for the winner.

Top 500

The global Ranked leaderboard tracks the Top 500 players. A player must complete at least 10 matches during the previous month to qualify for the leaderboard.

1v1 Quickplay

Mode Type

Casual online matches against random opponents.

Matchmaking

Quickplay prioritizes shorter queue times and uses a loose MMR system to reduce extreme skill mismatches. There are no squad-entry restrictions.

Best Used For

This mode is suitable for testing formations, trying newly acquired players, completing relevant challenges, or playing online without affecting Ranked Skill Rating.

Rewards

Quickplay awards Match Points and XP. The winner receives double match rewards, while rewards for leaving early are calculated from the amount of time played.

1v1 Friendly

Mode Type

Private casual matches against friends.

How It Works

Players can create a lobby and invite another player using a lobby code. Friendlies have no squad restrictions or skill-based matchmaking requirements, allowing both players to use any available team.

Best Used For

Friendlies are useful for testing tactics against a known opponent, practicing specific mechanics, or playing repeated matches without competitive ranking pressure.

Rewards

Friendly matches still award Match Points and XP, with the winner receiving double match rewards. Leaving early provides time-based rewards rather than the full match amount.

Solo Practice

The Solo Practice area contains multiple ways to learn GOALS mechanics, test players, and play against AI without entering an online match.

Practice Arena

How It Works

The Practice Arena places one controlled outfield player on the pitch with a goalkeeper. There is no time limit or competitive pressure.

Best Used For

Players can practice shot types, skill moves, free kicks, penalties, movement, and other individual mechanics. The Arena does not provide direct match rewards, although some challenges can be completed there.

Practice Scenarios

How It Works

Practice Scenarios are structured, objective-based challenges covering the game's core mechanics. Difficulty progresses through Rookie, Contender, and Champion tiers.

Rewards

Individual scenarios provide rewards, and completing an entire scenario set grants an additional bonus reward.

Bot Practice

Difficulty Levels
  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
How It Works

Bot Practice provides full matches against AI teams. Higher difficulties improve both AI decision-making and team strength. A match ends early when the player moves five goals ahead.

Rewards

Bot Practice awards Match Points and XP. Wins provide double rewards, while the total reward also scales with time played.
