FIFA 23 Squad Battles

FUT 23 Squad Battles

Squad Battles mode is a Single Player game mode in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team that allows you to challenge community squads for FUT rewards. You may also challenge squads of football players, pro FIFA players, and celebrities in Squad Battles to put your abilities to the test, grow your team, and collect FUT rewards.

How Does Squad Battles Mode Work?

You compete for a position on the weekly scoreboard in FUT Squad Battles mode. You will be presented with new lists of opponents to play against on a daily basis, all of whom were made by genuine players from around the world. You will be granted rewards based on your final rank at the end of the competition – the higher the rank, the better the gift. If you want to improve your overall point total, the Featured Squad can assist you. Popular FUT community users, as well as real players and clubs, create Featured Squads. You will be granted a specific amount of points if you defeat the Featured Squad, regardless of the difficulty you choose to play on.

Keep in mind that the rankings are based on the average score of all contestants. Squad Battles is a simple method to earn FUT awards and coins while playing Single Player matches.

  • Play against community created squad (Single Player mode) every day and earn points
  • Climb the Leaderboard to gain better rewards and FUT coins

How to Play Squad Battles

Squad Battles mode is accessible under ULTIMATE TEAM > PLAY > SQUAD BATTLES menu.

After entering Squad Battles mode, you will see a list of opponents you can play against under the tab OPPONENT SELECT. You can select an opponent to play against, examine their team and information, or change your opponent list (if an update is available). On the top right of the screen, you can see the time left until the next competition and the points you earned this week. There are also two other tabs under this game mode:

Featured Squad

Where you can play against the Featured Squad and earn higher points. Featured Squads are updated once a week (every 7 days). Featured Squads offer higher points than community matches.

Opponent Select

Where you get to pick your opponent and take on their team. After you’ve chosen your opponent, you’ll be prompted to choose a difficulty level:

  • Beginner
  • Amateur ~ 20% higher points than Beginner
  • Semi-Pro ~ 40% higher points than Beginner
  • Professional ~ 100% higher points than Beginner
  • World Class ~ 220% higher points than Beginner
  • Legendary ~ 320% higher points than Beginner
  • Ultimate ~ 420% higher points than Beginner
Your Rank

You may see your current rank, as well as the minimum points required for each position, in this window. On the opposite side of the ranking list is a list of awards for your present rank and other ranks, which includes some data and statistics such as the current percentage of players in your and other ranks.

Top 200

The current top 200 Squad Battles players are listed below, along with their Online ID, points, and the amount of games they’ve played in Squad Battles mode. You may also look at the top 200 players from the previous competition.

Format & Rules

A round of Squad Battles is called a “Competition”, each competition is available for one week (from Monday to Sunday). Every week, you will get 2 Featured Squads and 10 Rounds of play containing 4 squads each. 10 refreshes are available per week. You are able to refresh more than 10 times, but after 10 refreshes your matches will be unranked and no rewards will be given for those matches.

Squad Battles matches are all in Single Player format. Squad Battles matches half length is 6 minutes only. Any internet disconnection during the match (DNF) will cause you a loss.

By playing Squad Battles matches you will earn FIFA Coins and Squad Battles Points, these points will help you to climb the leaderboard and earn Squad Battles Rewards at the end of each round (to be redeemed every Monday).

Battle Points

When a Squad Battles match is completed, Battle Points are earned. In the weekly Squad Battles tournament, Battle Points are utilised to decide your rank. You will gain Battle Points by finishing a Squad Battle match; the more points you gather, the higher your place in the leaderboards will be. You can collect Battle points even if you lose a match. The number of points gained from a win is based on the difficulty level you choose.

The Battle Points calculation formula is a bit different depending on the outcome of the match, whether it’s a win or loss.

These formulas are not followed in Featured Squad Battles. If the final Battle Points result has decimal places, the value is always rounded up. This is evident in the following instances of calculations:

Win Formula

The formula below applies when you win a Squad Battles match.

[(Team Rating Score Win + Match Result + Skill Coins) x Win Difficulty Modifier] + (Goals For x Goals Difficulty Modifier)
  • Team Rating Score Win – (Team Rating * 3) + (Chemistry Rating / 2)
  • Match Result – This value is different if you win or lose. Since this formula is for a win, this value will be 200
  • Skill Coins – This is the value you are shown at the end of the match. It calculates how many FUT Coins you get for various actions, like scoring goals. For this equation, it’s a direct copy of that value into the formula
  • Win Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting you chose before the match:
    Difficulty (Win) Modifier
    Beginner 0.5
    Amateur 0.6
    Semi-Pro 0.7
    Professional 1
    World Class 1.6
    Legendary 2.1
    Ultimate 2.6
  • Goals For – (Total Goals Scored [Max of 5] * 40)
  • Goals Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting that you chose before the match:
    Difficulty (Win) Modifier
    Beginner 0.5
    Amateur 0.5
    Semi-Pro 1
    Professional 1.5
    World Class 2.5
    Legendary 3.5
    Ultimate 4
Loss Formula

The formula below applies when you lose a Squad Battles match.

[(Team Rating Score Loss + Match Result + Skill Coins) * Loss Difficulty Modifier] + (Goals For * Goals Difficulty Modifier)
  • Team Rating Score Loss – (Team Rating * 3) + (Chemistry Rating / 2)
  • Match Result – This value is different if you win or lose. Since this formula is for a loss, this value will be 50
  • Skill Coins – This is the value you are shown at the end of the match. It calculates how many FUT Coins you get for various actions, like scoring goals. For this equation, it’s a direct copy of that value into the formula
  • Loss Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting you chose before the match:
    Difficulty (Win) Modifier
    Beginner 0.2
    Amateur 0.25
    Semi-Pro 0.4
    Professional 0.5
    World Class 0.6
    Legendary 0.7
    Ultimate 0.7
  • Goals For – (Total Goals Scored [Max of 5] * 40)
  • Goals Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting that you selected prior to the match:
    Difficulty (Win) Modifier
    Beginner 0.5
    Amateur 0.5
    Semi-Pro 1
    Professional 1.5
    World Class 2.5
    Legendary 3.5
    Ultimate 4

Example time again: You played a match on Professional difficulty, against a team with an 87 Team Rating and 86 Chemistry. You lost the game, scored 2 goals, and received 145 Skill Coins, so you’d turn the formula:

[(Team Rating Score Loss + Match Result + Skill Coins) * Loss Difficulty Modifier] + (Goals For * Goals Difficulty Modifier)

    Into this: [(304 + 50 + 145) * 0.5] + (80 * 1.5) = 370 Battle Points

Ranking System

How does ranking in Squad Battles work?

In Squad Battles, the Battle Points you earn during the week determines your Rank in the weekly competition. Each Rank can only hold a certain percentage of the players competing in Squad Battles during the current weekly competition.

To get the highest rank, you will need to earn more Battle Points than all other players in the weekly competition. The percentage breakdown of each Rank can be seen in-game. If you are one of the Top 200 players in a weekly Squad Battles competition, you’ll earn rewards based on your position in the Top 200.

Does that mean I can change Ranks even if I haven’t done anything?

Yes, you can. If you start off playing Squad Battles matches early in the week and earn a lot of Battle Points, you might initially be in a top Rank. But if you don’t continue playing matches throughout the rest of the week or earn less Battle Points, other players could still be playing and earning Battle Points. That means your Rank could drop, if they out-earn you and move up. On the flip side, you could also move up a Rank if players don’t out-earn you.

How often do the Leaderboards update?

The leaderboard updates roughly every five minutes.

When do I get my rewards?

You will get your rewards shortly after the event ends.

Opponent Selection

Where do my opponents in Squad Battles come from?

Your AI-controlled opponents in Squad Battles come from the real Squads used by other players in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT). Specifically, Squads that were used by players when playing Squad Battles, Draft (Online and Offline), FUT Champions, and Division Rivals.

How do you choose the opponents?

When a set of opponents is provided, either at the start of a new Squad Battles competition or when you perform an Opponent Update, we always provide one Squad from each of our three Squad difficulty buckets: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Then we select a fourth Squad from either the Easy or Medium buckets, with a 50% chance of the Squad coming from either bucket.

How are the Squads’ difficulties determined?

Each Squad in FUT has both a Team Rating value and a Chemistry value. When those values are added together, you end up with an Overall Squad Rating. Each of our difficulty buckets in Squad Battles contains a range of Overall Squad Ratings:

Easy = 0-140
Medium = 141-182
Hard = 183+
