The LaLiga 2026-2027 season kicks off on the weekend of 15-16 August 2026. The season is set to run through to around late May 2027 (exact end date to be confirmed).
Teams
Twenty clubs participate in LaLiga 2026-27. Seventeen retained their place from the previous season, joined by three promoted teams from the Segunda División. Here's the full list:

Promoted Teams
Three sides move up from LaLiga Hypermotion for the 2026-27 campaign:
- Racing Santander (champions, back in the top flight after 14 years)
- Deportivo La Coruña (runners-up, back after 8 years)
- The winner of the Segunda División promotion play-off, contested between Almería, Málaga, Las Palmas and Castellón (play-offs run 6-21 June 2026, so the third promoted club isn't confirmed yet)
Relegated Teams
Three clubs drop down to LaLiga Hypermotion after finishing in the bottom three of 2025-26:
- Real Oviedo (relegated after one season in the top flight)
- Girona (relegated after four seasons in the top flight)
- Mallorca (relegated after five seasons in the top flight)
League Format
The 2026-27 LaLiga uses the standard 20-team format with each club playing home and away across 38 matchdays. The top teams qualify for European competitions, while the bottom three are relegated. Fixtures follow an asymmetric schedule, just like recent seasons. Because the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes place during the off-season, the international break calendar will see some changes.
