3-1-4-2 Formation

3-1-4-2 is a 3-5-2 formation variation in which a defender (preferably a sweeper) assists midfielders on attack and defense. This formation, like the 3-5-2, is heavily reliant on the wing-backs to provide width for the team. The wingers are more withdrawn, with one of the central midfielders pushed further upfield into the playmaker role.
