FIFA have long been the kings of football console games; whether it’s on PlayStation or Xbox, they have redefined the sport’s love affair with gaming over the last two decades.
After the instant and expected success of the latest edition in FIFA 18, which was released to adoring football fans back in September of this year, there is another offering on the horizon from retailers and keen developers EA Sports.
It’s set to be the biggest year possible for football fans in 2018 as there is the small matter of the World Cup set to take place in Russia during the summer months, kicking off on June 14 and running through until the final on July 15. That’s almost five weeks of non-stop international football action to look forward to.
The event takes place on Russian soil this time around, following the success of the last event held in Brazil back in 2014. The usual suspects will be involved, including reigning champions Germany, while the likes of the Netherlands are shock omissions from the exciting tournament in 2018.
It’s the defending title holders that will take to the event as the 19/4 front-runners to prevail according to football tips, which suggest that Die Mannschaft could well win back to back honours in 2018.
While the live action doesn’t kick off until June of next year, EA Sports are on hand to ease the pain of the long wait, as they are set to release the highly anticipated FIFA 2018 World Cup game for fans and gamers in March.
The new version of the highly engrossing and popular series is expected to land in shops around the middle of the month, giving fans some reason to be happy during the wait for the actual tournament. So, what can we expect from the latest edition of FIFA?
This latest spinoff from EA Sports is their sixth edition involving a World Cup tournament, with the first having dropped back in 1997 when the company acquired the license to publish official WC video games prior to each showpiece competition.
It took off successfully and has been running ever since, with the last having been released ahead of the Brazil-based tournament back in 2014. The games have had their critics, as always, but they have been a success nevertheless in terms of sales and enjoyment.
FIFA games have been the most celebrated of those based on sport in history, with fans going wild every year for the latest updates and versions. This World Cup edition could well be no different, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar set to don their international colours and aim for glory on Russian territory.
It’s reported that player stats will be updated upon the March release to coincide with the current ongoing club campaign, meaning the player rankings from the FIFA 18 release could be even more accurate. Meanwhile, the most exciting aspect of this edition is that all nations that take part in World Cup tournament will be available in kickoff mode in the game. So, even if you’re an Irish or Scottish fan, you can enjoy your team taking part in the World Cup on the game, even if they won’t be in Russia for real in June.
While fans are still enjoying the last FIFA 18 release from earlier in the year, it’s expected that the new World Cup edition will also have an improved setup and graphics will be even more advanced for gamers to enjoy on the international scene.
Despite the critics of yet another football game, FIFA 2018 World Cup is a nice taster of what’s to come in the summer and fans will no doubt flood into shops to get their hands on the latest release come next March.
