Lionel Messi

The Argentine footballing legendary is now arguably the greatest player to ever live after finally claiming the one major title that has forever eluded him in the form of the FIFA World Cup. Messi has since moved to the US and has taken the MLS by storm as a part of the newly established Inter Miami, with fans of the beautiful game now being able to check out all the latest MLS and related soccer odds for this playmaker.

His greatness is not only merited by his performances and many accolades that he has accumulated whilst on the pitch, but also in the virtual gaming circuit as he has culminated several impressive overall ratings in EA Sports’ yearly release of their highly touted ‘FIFA’ series, with these being a full rundown of every single one of Messi’s ratings since FIFA 09 when the first official Ultimate Team was launched.

FIFA 09 – 90 rated:

Even at just 21 years of age, Messi was already rated as a can’t miss prospect that had just guided his beloved FC Barcelona to his second taste of Champions League success after previously winning the esteemed accolade back in 2006.
Messi completed the treble in 2009 with a league, domestic cup and European title, which also netted him his first of what would be seven Ballon d’Or awards.

FIFA 10 – 91 rated:

While he was unable to win back-to-back trebles, Messi’s 2010 campaign saw the youngster rack up his highest goalscoring season to that point as he netted 47 times in just 53 games in all competitions.
These astounding scoring figures would ensure that he would claim his second straight Ballon d’Or honor, signaling that he would remain as one of the highest rated players in all of FIFA.

FIFA 11 – 90 rated:

While his rating dipped back down to a 90, the trophies would continue to pour in as Messi won his third Champions League honor as well as winning the league yet again.
A third consecutive Ballon d’Or award would soon follow despite being only 23 years of age and still plenty of room to develop.

FIFA 12 – 94 rated:

FIFA 12 is often looked back upon by many as the best in the series and the dawning of a great stretch of FUT releases that likely spans from 12 all the way up to 17. This was also the first year where Messi was truly represented as the best player in the game by EA Sports as well as appearing on the cover of the game, where he would remain up until FIFA 17.

2011/12 Lionel Messi is widely regarded as being his peak season as an individual talent as he scored a record-breaking 91 goals in all competitions, which of course ensured that he would win his fourth straight Ballon d’Or award.

FIFA 13 – 94 rated:

Messi’s legendary 2012 calendar year was merited by EA Sports in FUT 13 as they famously released an incredibly rare 91 overall Messi to celebrate his total amount of goals scored during the prior year. His actual rating would remain at a 94 but the goals would certainly not stop as he once again earn many prestigious honors but would ultimately fall short of claiming an unprecedented fifth Ballon d’Or honor.

FIFA 14 – 94 rated:

EA were seemingly content with keeping Messi at a more than satisfactory 94 rating in a year where he would help guide Argentina to a World Cup final appearance, winning the Golden Ball in the process.

FIFA 15 – 93 rated:

2014/15 was a landmark year for Messi as he became the central figure of one of the greatest strike forces of all-time as he paired up alongside Neymar Jr. and recent acquired Luis Suarez to help deliver Barca another treble winning season as well as another Ballon d’Or award.

FIFA 16 – 94 rated:

FUT 16 would be the final year where Messi would feature on the cover for the game as well as the first year where he would be famously awarded his first-ever 99 rated card during the annual Team of the Year promo, as well as being the first official FIFA where his starting position would be changed to a Right Winger instead of a Centre Forward.

FIFA 17 – 93 rated:

With the addition of the Frostbite engine, Messi would be given a new look in FIFA 17 as he sported a now infamous blonde hairstyle, before changing back to his signature hairstyle the following year.

FIFA 18 – 93 rated:

Messi would still enjoy a tremendous period of success during the latter years of his tenure in Catalonia with another title and domestic cup winning campaign.

FIFA 19 – 94 rated:

Following Neymar’s departure to PSG, Messi was moved back to the Centre forward position alongside Suarez as he reclaimed Ballon d’Or honors and was once again awarded another 99 rated TOTY card.

FIFA 20 – 94 rated:

Messi was once again moved back out to the Right Wing and was gifted a consecutive 99 rated TOTY card.

FIFA 21 – 93 rated:

This would be Messi’s final season with FC Barcelona, with EA rewarding his services to the Catalonian giants with another respectable rating following what could be his final Ballon d’Or year.

FIFA 22 – 93 rated:

It was certainly a strange sight to witness Messi in a PSG shirt but after leading the Parisan club to domestic success, he proved that he still has plenty to offer at the topflight.

FIFA 23 – 91 rated:

Messi’s final ever FIFA rating, before the transition to EAFC, would be a respectable 91 overall. This would be the year that he would finally win the FIFA World Cup for Argentina as well as his last season with PSG before moving to the MLS with Inter Miami, where he has been gifted a 99 rated Futties card to get fans hyped for his latest stint in the US.
