How Does Squad Battles Mode Work?
In FUT Squad Battles mode, you play for a spot on the weekly leaderboard. Multiple times a day, you will encounter new lists of opponents to play against, all of whom were created by real players around the world. By the end of the competition, you will be awarded prizes based on your final rank — the higher the rank, the better the prize. If you are looking to boost your overall point score, the Featured Squad can help you with that. Featured Squads are teams set up by popular FUT community members, and even real players and clubs. If you manage to beat the Featured Squad, you are awarded a set amount of points, no matter what difficulty you chose to play on.
Take note that the ranks are determined by the average score among all competitors. So, Squad Battles is a simple way to play Single Player matches and earn FUT rewards and coins.

How to Play Squad Battles
Squad Battles mode is accessible under ULTIMATE TEAM > SINGLE PLAYER > SQUAD BATTLES menu.
After entering Squad Battles mode, you will see a list of opponents you can play against under the tab OPPONENT SELECT. You can choose your opponent to play against, view their squad and their details or update your opponents list (if an update is available). On the top right of the screen, you can see the time left until the next competition and the points you earned this week. There are also two other tabs under this game mode:
Featured Squad
Where you can play against the Featured Squad and earn higher points. Featured Squads are updated once a week (every 7 days). Featured Squads offer higher points than community matches.

Opponent Select
Where you can choose your opponent to challenge their squad. Once you selected your opponent, you will be asked to select the difficulty:
- Beginner
- Amateur ~ 20% higher points than Beginner
- Semi-Pro ~ 40% higher points than Beginner
- Professional ~ 100% higher points than Beginner
- World Class ~ 220% higher points than Beginner
- Legendary ~ 320% higher points than Beginner
- Ultimate ~ 420% higher points than Beginner
Your Rank
Under this window, you can see your current rank with the minimum points required for each rank. Opposite the ranking list you can see the rewards list for your current rank and other ranks including some details and statistics such as how many percentage of players are currently in your and other ranks.
Top 100
Here you can see the current list of top 100 Squad Battles players including their Online ID, points and the number of games they played under Squad Battles mode. You can also see the previous competition’s top 100 players list.
Competition Format & Rules
A round of Squad Battles is called a “Competition”, each competition is available for one week (from Monday to Sunday). Every day during the weekdays, you will get 1 Featured Squad and 4 Squads from the community to play against. A squad update is available every 6 hours.
Squad Battles matches are all in Single Player format. Squad Battles matches half length is 6 minutes only. Any internet disconnection during the match (DNF) will cause you a loss.
By playing Squad Battles matches you will earn FIFA 21 Coins and Squad Battles Points, these points will help you to climb the leaderboard and earn Squad Battles Rewards at the end of each round (to be redeemed every Monday).
Battle Points
Battle Points are gained when a Squad Battles match is completed. Battle Points are used to determine your Rank in the weekly Squad Battles competition. By completing a Squad Battle match you will earn Battle Points, the more points you collects, the higher rank you will get in the leaderboards. Losing a match does not mean you earn no points, even a loss can gain you Battle points. The number of points gained from a win is based on the difficulty level you choose.
The Battle Points calculation formula is a bit different depending on the outcome of the match, whether it’s a win or loss.
Featured Squad Battles do not follow these formulas. If there are decimal places in the final Battle Points result, the value is always rounded up. This is reflected in the examples of the calculations here:
Win Formula
The formula below applies when you win a Squad Battles match.
- Team Rating Score Win – (Team Rating * 3) + (Chemistry Rating / 2)
- Match Result – This value is different if you win or lose. Since this formula is for a win, this value will be 200
- Skill Coins – This is the value you are shown at the end of the match. It calculates how many FUT Coins you get for various actions, like scoring goals. For this equation, it’s a direct copy of that value into the formula
- Win Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting you chose before the match:

Loss Formula
The formula below applies when you lose a Squad Battles match.
- Team Rating Score Loss – (Team Rating * 3) + (Chemistry Rating / 2)
- Match Result – This value is different if you win or lose. Since this formula is for a loss, this value will be 50
- Skill Coins – This is the value you are shown at the end of the match. It calculates how many FUT Coins you get for various actions, like scoring goals. For this equation, it’s a direct copy of that value into the formula
- Loss Difficulty Modifier – This value is generated based on the difficulty setting you chose before the match:

Featured Squad Battles
Featured Squad Battles are special matches where you can play against squads created by members of the FIFA and football community, such as real footballers, celebrities, or FIFA pro players. Not every weekly competition in Squad Battles will have a Featured Squad Battle.
The amount of Battle Points earned for playing a Featured Squad Battle match is not the same as you would earn for a normal Squad Battle match. Instead, the number of Battle Points you earn is based on whether you win or lose the game, and what difficulty you played the match on. The specific Battle Point values are below:

How does ranking in Squad Battles work?
How does ranking in Squad Battles work?
In Squad Battles, the Battle Points you earn during the week determines your Rank in the weekly competition. Each Rank can only hold a certain percentage of the players competing in Squad Battles during the current weekly competition.
To get the highest rank, you will need to earn more Battle Points than all other players in the weekly competition. The percentage breakdown of each Rank can be seen in-game. If you are one of the Top 100 players in a weekly Squad Battles competition, you’ll earn rewards based on your position in the Top 100.
Does that mean I can change Ranks even if I haven’t done anything?
Yes, you can. If you start off playing Squad Battles matches early in the week and earn a lot of Battle Points, you might initially be in a top Rank. But if you don’t continue playing matches throughout the rest of the week or earn less Battle Points, other players could still be playing and earning Battle Points. That means your Rank could drop, if they out-earn you and move up. On the flip side, you could also move up a Rank if players don’t out-earn you.
How often do the Leaderboards update?
The leaderboard updates roughly every five minutes.
When do I get my rewards?
You will get your rewards shortly after the event ends.
Opponent Selection
Where do my opponents in Squad Battles come from?
Your AI-controlled opponents in Squad Battles come from the real Squads used by other players in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT). Specifically, Squads that were used by players when playing Squad Battles, Draft (Online and Offline), FUT Champions, and Division Rivals.
How do you choose the opponents?
When a set of opponents is provided, either at the start of a new Squad Battles competition or when you perform an Opponent Update, we always provide one Squad from each of our three Squad difficulty buckets: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Then we select a fourth Squad from either the Easy or Medium buckets, with a 50% chance of the Squad coming from either bucket.
How are the Squads’ difficulties determined?
Each Squad in FUT has both a Team Rating value and a Chemistry value. When those values are added together, you end up with an Overall Squad Rating. Each of our difficulty buckets in Squad Battles contains a range of Overall Squad Ratings:
Easy = 0-140
Medium = 141-182
Hard = 183+

Can I play Squad Battles online?
No. Squad Battles is available only in single player (offline) mode.
Where are my opponent Squads coming from?
Your opponent squads are the squads from the community. There are also squads from the pro footballers and pro FIFA players knows as Featured Squads.
Will my opponent notice that I played against their squads?
No.
Will I still get Points if I lose a match?
Yes. Depending on your current Rank and the Difficulty you choose, you will get some amount of Points for finishing a match, no matter if it’s a win or lose. Other facts such as your in-game performance also will result you earning some Points.
