Refereeing: Throw-In

A throw-in is a method of restarting play after the ball has gone out of the field over touchlines.

A throw-in is awarded to the opponents of the player who last touched the ball when the whole of the ball crosses the touch line, either on the ground or in the air.

The correct procedure of the is explained in Laws of the Game as follows:

The thrower must face the field of play. He/she must have part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line. He/she must hold the ball with both hands. He/she must deliver the ball from behind and over his head.
He/she must deliver the ball from the point where it left the field of play.

A cheeky , but correct throw-in

As you can see in the video above, Man United’s player throws the ball in, since the ball has touched another player, he is allowed to play on – so the throw-in is correctly taken.
